I am going over to New Zealand on a working holiday visa in September, I will be starting of in Auckland but hopefully going elsewhere during my time there. Can anyone tell me what is like to get a part time job over there just now?

My girlfriend and I are going to travelling next year and would like to spend a few months in New Zealand. we were thinking of travelling around for a month but prior to that renting a flat somewhere and working for a couple of months.
Can anybody recommend a good place to set up home for 2 months? Which area of New Zealand is likely to best suit us i.e. cheap to rent, can find work, plenty of attractions to go and see.

I mean, I’m European, and I’ve lived in Europe and travelled to like Italy and other places. But what is it like to live somewhere else? I currently live in the US, and with the bad economy and everything my parents just don’t like it here. It wasn’t what they expected. I personally like it. There are many opportunities here. But they want to move to places like Ireland, the UK, Australia or even New Zealand. I DO NOT tolerate cold weather, so Australia would be perfect for me. But UK…Not so much. a day with over 100 degrees is perfect for me. I doubt they have that there. Plus, with the chavs and everything. Just tell me how it is to live where you live, even if you’re from the US. How is it to live in your city/state/country/town?
yeah I’ve been to New York and din’t like it very much. Its very different in comparison to Chicago ;p Chicago is neat, classy, just beautiful. The night life is very sophisticated, with a sex and the city feel. You won’t find much trash here at all. And the people are just amazing. So is the lake. I love it. But New York was wayyy to trashy for me. The only place I liked was town square. NOTHING else. People are veru rude too. One corner is gucci and prada stores, the next its bums on the ground and trash and just dirtiness. You have to have been in Downtown Chicago to understand ;p I’ve been to Jersey too…but not much of it so I can’t say much ;p

Extended question:
Americas are bought up to learn nothing but American history and significant events in world history. We don’t learn anything about any other countries: Canada, Britain, France, New Zealand, Belguim…NONE OF THEM!!
I have a couple of Canadian friends and they know a lot about American history. WHY!?? I don’t understand it at all.
I was in the Navy and visited Phillipines, Singapore, Greece, Bahrain, Dubai, Kuwait, Portugal, and Germany. (iraq doesnt count 
p )
And the people in these countries know about the things going on in America. They asked if I was for Obama or Hillary, they asked so many question and talked about America like they were from here.
I plan on moving to Canada to go to college with some of my friends. Am I going to see a lot of American news on the tele’ and a little bit of Canadian news?
Someone just explain to me why America is a lot of countries focus?
Im not bashing anyone or their country, I just want to know why.

People, do me a favor and read what she wrote to me. Okay, in college we learn a lot about other countries if we take a class devoted to that, but from K-12 we learn mostly USA history and some world history.
…..then again, you do look like your in your 50’s so maybe the educational system was different when you were in school.

I’m considering a move from Canada to New Zealand and was wondering how much (roughly) it will cost for me to ship the contents of my one bedroom apartment overseas. I have looked up movers but cant get an estimate without giving out a lot of personal information which at this point I would not like to do as I’m just trying to get an idea. Has anyone done something similar to this, or have an idea of the costs per pound or size of container? Thanks!
I’m asking for a rough estimate on how much it will cost to move my one bedroom apartment from Canada to New Zealand, NOT whether I should or not. For the amount of money I would have to spend to replace everything I own, it may very well be worth it. I’ve already been given an estimate of $2900 to ship my stuff over,which is less than what my couch cost me in the first place, and the feeling of being at home in a new country is priceless.

So I had a one night stand with a friend of mine about 3 weeks ago, and things were awkward for a bit but are cool now. We get along really well and are really similar. He’s moving back to New Zealand in a week, and we’re in Canada now. Him and I and all our friends took a road trip over the weekend, and we made out again in the hotel. The next day he was flirting with another girl who came along but I know she’s not into him at all. He completely ignored me all day, snubbing me and excluding me, and made some kind of nasty comments, comparing her and I. I can’t figure out why he’s being such an ass to me.

New Zealand, or The UK? I want to move to one of them for a year or 2 each with a working holiday visa. I can get an ancestry visa for england, but i can only get a working holiday visa for NZ. for anyone whos been to both, which would be cheaper?
